A Summary of What I Wrote In 2024
When I’m in writing mode, I keep on churning out stuff. I got close to 500 drafts sitting in my Evernote and Notion. That hardly leaves time for me to look back, except once a year, which is today!
FWIW, that sketch is inspired by the amazing Hukleikur Dagsson, a comedian with a questionable sense of humor.
Topics and what to expect in 2025
I’ve started this newsletter without any other goal than to educate myself. I believe Peter Drucker, in “Managing Oneself,” explains that one of the key lessons in life is to learn how one learns.
Some people are auditory learners; they learn by listening. Some learn by speaking about the topics they are exploring. I happen to understand by writing, by writing, and by thinking while I’m writing.
This year displays that pretty well, I’m easy to distract and to explore new topics. Well this year I got distracted by cyber security and generative AI - and became an expert in (using & applying!) generative AI on the side.
I’ve decided to keep that practice of being distracted and stop trying to force this blog into a particular direction.
Top articles you might’ve missed from 2024
Let’s dive into the top articles. Top articles, to me, are the ones that get the most engagement. Engagement, I like to think of as a combination of more than average views coupled with likes and new subscriptions generated by this one post.
There’s a pretty straightforward set of articles that stand out, and interestingly (unlike in 2023), one of them tops all others in page views and new subscriptions generated—and as often, I have no idea why.
Here they are:
Number one article, by FAAAR: https://www.thdpth.com/p/whats-wrong-with-bi
https://www.thdpth.com/p/dissecting-what-makes-a-data-strategy
I don’t know about you, but I don’t see any order in those. Yes, I see three articles about BI: one about general data strategy inside companies, one on books, and one on the company Starburst. The top of my mind in 2024 was generative AI, yet there’s not a single article about that on this list. Go figure (yes, I did write some!).
There's not much more to say than enjoy another year, likely with a broader scope of topics and learning from me!
