A Daily Newsletter On Data & Decisions!
I launched a new newsletter called datacisions! It is….
daily
short and direct
for people who think data & decisions are inseparable (like me)
fun.
The 3 Faces of Open Source
I had some time to write about open source again in my little publication, “Unpacking Business Open Source.”
We all love open source […]Yet, both open-source users and providers (be they companies or individuals) miss the multifaceted nature of open-source. Let’s face it: open source is a misleading word because how we know it today is how it is implemented by the two giants of this industry, GitHub and GitLab (together having 99% of the market share for OS repositories).
3 Business Books For Data People
Seth Godin likes to say books are a bargain. If you get one idea from a book, it already paid for itself. I get most ideas about data science, ML and AI from business books. I don’t really know why, maybe it is the test of time, but for whatever reason I find myself recommending more business books than data book.
No Bullshit BI
I often see that data people think businesses aren’t paying enough attention to data, while business people tend to believe data people aren’t focused enough on the business side to be helpful with their data.
I think we need to restore this trust, the trust that both sides care for the other enough to move things forward together.
Drowning in Data
You can do many things with data and start your road down a million different ways. Some are more likely to fail than others. And a lot can lead you into a data-driven future. It is not really that you must select the right path, but rather the path into the right environment so that it is less likely to fail.
Until next week,
